Studio: audiobooks
Studio is for long-form projects, starting with audiobooks. Import a book or paste text, check the chapters, choose a narrator, and Cinara records it chapter by chapter.
Create an audiobook
1. Add the text
- Open Studio in the sidebar.
- Choose one:
- Import a document: choose Choose a document and pick an EPUB, Word (DOCX), Markdown or plain text file. Chapters are found from its headings.
- Paste text: paste the book. Tick The text uses Markdown headings (# and ##) if it does. Choose Use this text.
2. Check the book
Under Your book:
- Check the Title (required) and add the Author (optional).
- Each chapter shows its number, title, character count, estimated listening time and first paragraph.
- Click a chapter title to rename it.
- Choose × to remove a chapter.
- Very long chapters show "will be recorded in parts". They still play as one chapter.
- Choose Start over to pick different text.
3. Choose the narrator and settings
- Narrator: choose a voice. Your voices lists your cloned and designed voices; Cinara voices lists the library voices. Choose the play button to hear it.
- Quality: Cinara Speech or Cinara Speech HD.
- Language: Detect, or one of 37 languages (the same list as Speech).
- Speed: 0.80× to 1.20×.
- Read chapter titles aloud: on by default.
The summary shows Chapters, Characters, Listening time and Credits.
4. Record
Choose Create audiobook.
Chapters are recorded one after another while the page is open. Keep the page open until it finishes. If you close it, open the audiobook again from Your audiobooks to carry on.
While it records
- A progress bar shows the percentage done, for example Recording chapter 3 of 12….
- Each chapter shows Ready, Recording (with parts done, like 2/5) or Waiting.
- You can play chapters as soon as they're ready.
When it's done
- Each chapter has a player and a download button.
- Download all saves every chapter as its own MP3.
- The audiobook is listed under Your audiobooks with its chapters, narrator, length and credits.
Limits
- Documents up to 30 MB: EPUB, DOCX, Markdown (.md, .markdown) or plain text (.txt).
- Up to 500,000 characters per audiobook.
- Up to 200 chapters.
- Paragraphs up to 20,000 characters.
- Chapters over 30,000 characters are recorded in parts.
- Speed from 0.80× to 1.20×.
- If a document can't be read, you may see "No text was found in that document.", "This Word file has no text" or "Use a TXT, Markdown, Word (DOCX) or EPUB file".
Credits
- Cinara Speech: 1 credit per character.
- Cinara Speech HD: 2 credits per character.
- Chapter titles count too when Read chapter titles aloud is on.
- Cinara checks your balance before it starts. If it's too low, you see "This needs N credits".
- If the audiobook fails, your credits are refunded.
Tips
- Clean up the document first: remove page numbers, footnotes and tables of contents.
- Check the chapter list before recording. Remove front matter you don't want read.
- Preview a few narrators on a short chapter before recording the whole book.
- Add character and place names to your workspace pronunciations. Studio uses them when it records.
- Use Cinara Speech HD for the final version.
