Studio: podcasts

A podcast turns a document, an article or your notes into an episode where two hosts talk it through. Cinara writes the script first, you read and edit it, and only then is it recorded.

Writing the script costs 100 credits. Recording is charged when you press record, so a script you don't like costs almost nothing.

Make an episode

1. Add the text

1. Open Studio in the sidebar.
2. Under Kind of project, choose Podcast.
3. Choose one:
   • Import a document: choose Choose a document and pick an EPUB, Word (DOCX), Markdown or plain text file, up to 30 MB.
   • Paste text: paste a report, an article or your notes into Text the hosts talk about.

Your source then shows what the hosts will talk about. Choose Start over to pick different text.

2. Set up the episode

• Episode title: optional. Leave it empty and Cinara writes one.
• Notes for the hosts: optional. The angle, the audience, anything to skip.
• Hosts: name each host and give each one a voice. Your voices lists your cloned and designed voices; Cinara voices lists the library voices. The two hosts need different names and different voices.
• Length: 3 to 30 minutes. This is the length the script is written for.
• Quality: Cinara Speech or Cinara Speech HD.
• Language: Detect, or one of 37 languages (the same list as Speech).
• Intro and outro music: on by default. Cinara makes a short theme for the start and the end.

3. Write the script

Choose Write the script · 100 credits.

The script usually takes under a minute for a short source. A 1,200-character source produced a 44-line script in about 20 seconds. You can leave the page and come back.

4. Read and edit the script

When it's ready the episode shows Ready to review, with the whole conversation.

• Change the Episode title.
• Edit any line's text, and change which host says it.
• Add line puts a new line after the one you're on.
• Remove a line you don't want.
• Choose Save changes when you're done. It shows Saved.

Editing is free: nothing has been recorded yet. The panel shows the Lines, the estimated Listening time and what recording will cost.

5. Record

Choose Record episode · N credits.

Cinara records a few lines at a time in the background, so you can leave the page and come back. You'll see Recording line 12 of 44 and a progress bar. A 26-line script recorded into a two-minute episode in about a minute.

Then Cinara joins the lines, makes the intro and outro, and puts the episode together.

The result

• Episode: the finished episode, with the music.
• Hosts only: the conversation without the music.
• Intro and Outro: the two music beds on their own.
• Transcript: the script as text, with each host's name.

Each file has a player or a download button. The hosts' track, the music and the transcript can be played and downloaded while the episode is still being put together.

Episodes are listed under Your projects, alongside your audiobooks, marked Podcast with their status: Writing, Ready to review, Recording, Ready or Failed · refunded.

Limits

• Source text: 200 to 200,000 characters. The writer reads the first 40,000 characters of a long document.
• Documents up to 30 MB: EPUB, DOCX, Markdown or plain text.
• Episode length: 3 to 30 minutes.
• Up to 400 lines, each up to 800 characters.
• Host names up to 40 characters. The two hosts need different names and different voices.
• Notes up to 600 characters.
• Messages you might see: "Add the text to talk about (at least 200 characters)", "Choose a length from 3 to 30 minutes", "Give the two hosts different names", "Give each host a different voice", "Keep the notes under 600 characters".

• Writing is charged when you choose Write the script, recording when you choose Record episode. A script you never record costs only the 100 credits.
• Editing the script is free, and so is rewriting it before you record.
• The cost shown next to Record episode follows your edits: cut lines, and it falls.
• If your balance is too low you see "Recording this episode needs N credits; the workspace has M."
• If a step fails, its credits are refunded.

Tips

• Give the hosts notes: the angle and the audience change the script more than the length does.
• Pick two voices that sound different from each other. A contrast in age or energy makes the conversation easy to follow.
• Read the script before recording. It's the only free moment to fix a name, a claim or an ending.
• The hosts only talk about the text you give them, so paste everything the episode needs.
• Add names and jargon to your workspace pronunciations before recording.
• Turn the music off for an internal briefing, and keep it for anything you publish.
